data-driven magical realism
in architecture
This project reimagines magical realism as an architectural strategy in virtual space. Drawing on data from the Jeju 4.3 Uprising, it transforms historical records and testimonies into playable architecture. Shadows become interactive structures—reminding us that the past must never be forgotten, for only then can memory exist.

shadow mechanism
Set against the Jeju April 3rd Uprising (1947–54), a civilian massacre in South Korea, the project reinterprets traumatic history through interactive spatial storytelling. Magical realism is reimagined as an architectural method: environments emerge not from pure imagination but from data—figures of victims, dates, and places. Numbers shape form and atmosphere: stairs rising with casualties, collapsing schoolrooms echoing destruction, and walls whose thickness embodies absence.
